NEW BASEBALL FACILITY TO OPEN WITH HEATING ASSISTANCE BENEFIT
If you love baseball you know that the season never ends. Even though the Yankees have just won their 27th world championship, die-hard players and fans alike are oiling up their gloves and honing their swings as they look forward to the spring.
But now no one in western North Carolina will have to wait to be part of “America’s Pastime” as Asheville’s newest and finest sports facility opens this December.
Thanks to long-time friend and world champion pitcher Darren Holmes, Coach Ronald Tipton, and Eddie Harwood, Bases r Loaded is celebrating their grand opening with a two-day fundraising kick-off to benefit the Eblen-Kimmel Charities.
The “Hitting for Heat” event will be a 48 hour batting marathon on the campus of Bases r Loaded Inc. Baseball and Softball Training Facility, located at 6 Fairview Rd. in Asheville, NC, on Saturday and Sunday December 5th and 6th.
Proceeds from the first five memberships sold will go to the Eblen-Kimmel Charities. Other fundraising events include:
- homemade smoked barbeque plates for sale
- 50/50 raffles for new bats and baseball/softball equipment
- 48 hr. nonstop marathon of hitting for members and community involved in the fundraising effort.
All proceeds from the two day event will go to The Eblen-Kimmel Energy Project which has delivered hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil and natural gas, and assisted with electric bills to families in our community living with illnesses and disabilities. In partnership with Buncombe County Department of Social Services, Haywood Electric Membership Corporation, Biltmore Oil Company and cooperation with other oil distributors, and Progress Energy and Public Service Gas Company, the Eblen-Kimmel Energy Project provides much needed assistance to families in need throughout the year. By providing heating oil, assistance with funding for gas and electric bills and purchasing space heaters, we ensure that those who seek our help will not be left out in the cold during the winter.
“We at Bases r Loaded feel that it is our obligation and pleasure to assist in community programs such as the energy project explained above. As members of western North Carolina, we must pull together in tough times to ensure that our fellow citizens have the necessities required to make it through tough times such as those we are encountering. Currently, many individuals in our region are without jobs and are truly experiencing a harsh set of circumstances as a result,” states Coach Tipton. “With winter readily approaching and temperatures beginning to drop accordingly, we feel that the Eblen – Kimmel Energy Project is a great opportunity for Bases r Loaded Inc. to become proactive in helping our fellow citizens and community with obtaining much needed assistance through the cold of the winter months.”
